Chorus Syllabus

Beginning Chorus

The beginning chorus is an entry-level group for students with little or no singing experience at the middle school level. ALL 6TH GRADERS start in beginning chorus, as well as any 7th or 8th graders who have not already completed one full year of middle school chorus. There are no restrictions on enrollment for this class, but students are required to participate in the Fall, Winter, and Spring concerts. The repertoire (music) includes standard works for chorus and popular selections adapted to the level of the ensemble.

Intermediate Chorus

The Intermediate chorus is our second level group consisting of students who have completed one or two years of chorus at the middle school level. Students MUST have director approval to enroll. Requirements for acceptance into this ensemble (group) include basic sight singing and music theory skills. Students will be asked to correctly identify basic music symbols/terms and sing a simple 8-measure exercise. Students who transfer from other schools may be required to audition for the director before joining this chorus. The intermediate choral repertoire (music) consists of quality original works for chorus and popular music adaptations. The Intermediate Chorus also participates in numerous performances each year. Members are required to participate in the Fall, Winter, District Music Performance Assessments (MPA), and Spring concerts. Students are also eligible to audition for the All State, ADCA, and OCPS All County Honor Choirs, with director approval. More information on these performances will follow.

Advanced Chorus

The Advanced chorus consists of our top singers and performers. This chorus is a group of extremely qualified musicians who have successfully completed at least one or two years of chorus at the middle school level.Placement in this chorus will be determined by the teacher's recommendation or audition, and a year-long demonstration of the student's behavior, attitude, and ability.

The objective of this class is to advance the student's musical and technical skills. Students who transfer from other schools will be required to audition for the director before joining this chorus. The choral repertoire (music) is of a more difficult nature, consisting of quality original works for chorus and popular music adaptations. The Advanced Chorus also participates in numerous performances each year. Members are encouraged to participate in Solo and Ensemble Music Performance Assessment. Members of this chorus are also required to participate in the Fall, Winter, District Music Performance Assessments (MPA), and Spring concerts. Students are also eligible to audition for the All State, ADCA, and OCPS All County Honor Choirs, with director approval. More information on these performances will follow.
